Softcover vs. Hardcover

Is the soft cover book paper or something that will not tear? This is for a 2 year old and needs to be sturdy. Love the zoo book.

The soft cover books are print on gloss cover stock (which is thick) and are UV coated. It is sturdy but is still paper. It is possible to tear but it would take some work. Let me know if you need more information.
